Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes of women that exist in pop culture, she also works to address issues relating to targeted harassment women and others online. Holding a master's degree in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series that would examine gender-based representations in video games. She was the subject of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in popular culture of today.
